TITLE: REPAIRER
DEPARTMENT: BUS AND SUBWAY OPERATIONS

SALARY RANGE: $26.28 (MINIMUM) - $35.05 (MAXIMUM) PER HOUR
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: The Repairer is responsible for inspection, trouble-shooting, maintenance and repair of all electronic, electrical and mechanical equipment and systems on rail/electric trolley bus (ETB)/ Dual Mode Articulated (DMA) vehicles and for response to vehicle road failures. The Repairer will: conduct time-based or mileage-based inspections for major and minor repairs; perform schedule overhaul and preventative maintenance; perform routine maintenance and correction of defects on such equipment as differentials, trucks, wheel bearings, axles, springs, shock absorbers, heating ventilation and air conditioning systems (HVAC), propeller shafts, universal joints, instruments and various auxiliary equipment; and use and operate various types of equipment including hand tools, power tools, complex testing instruments and railcar equipment.
The selected candidate will: perform timely repairs in response to road failures and vehicle defects; input daily work into computerized system; use a variety of measuring and portable test equipment to maintain vehicle operating parameters and to troubleshoot system defects; use various hand and power tools; drive a company or personal vehicle to inspect work and/or transport crews or equipment as needed; ensure that all inventory levels, equipment and facilities under their control are protected in a safe operating condition; and respond to each inquiry, whether from a customer, vendor or co-worker in a courteous and professional manner consistent with the Authority's "Driven by Customer Service" quality standard. Further, the Repairer will: maintain up-to-date knowledge of electronic, electrical and mechanical principles applied to rail car/electric trolley bus (ETB)/Dual Mode Articulated (DMA) equipment; interpret technical publications, blueprints and wiring diagrams; produce written equipment reports and records; adhere to the rules, regulations, collective bargaining agreements (if applicable) and policies of the Authority including the EEO, Anti-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment and Anti-Retaliation policies; and perform related duties and projects as assigned.

REPAIRER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:
A high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) with the ability to comprehend, communicate and respond to instructions, orders, signs, notices, inquiries, etc. in English; two (2) years of work experience in mechanical, HVAC, electrical and/or electronic repair, preferably on high-tech vehicles/equipment currently used in rail or bus transportation; effective multi-tasking and time management skills; the ability to use Automotive Maintenance Software applications; and the ability to pass: the Rail Repairer exam; background screenings; a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check; and the MBTA's medical requirements, including a physical examination and drug and alcohol screening.
Further, the candidate must: have excellent customer service skills; have a valid driver's license; have a satisfactory work record for the two (2) years immediately prior to the closing date of this posting, including overall employment, job performance, discipline and safety records (infractions and/or offenses occurring after the closing of the posting and before the filling of a vacancy may preclude a candidate from consideration for selection); have the ability to work any and all shifts and/or locations as assigned or directed; and have the ability to work with a diverse workforce.
Substitutions Include: knowledge of mechanical, electrical and electronic theory and principles as acquired through a two (2) year technical or vocational training program, including but not limited to a college degree program, high school vocational program, union apprenticeship, United States Armed Services training and/or documented employer training may be substituted for the required work experience.
NOTE(S):
1.) This is a Safety Sensitive Position. Incumbents will be subject to periodic random drug & alcohol testing.
2.) During declared "states of emergency", this classification is deemed essential, and employees working in this classification are required to report to work for their assigned work hours or as directed by supervisory personnel.
3.) Candidates choosing a rating station with the Bus Operations Department will be required to possess a valid Massachusetts Commercial Driver's License (CDL) permit with air brakes and passenger endorsements within 30 days of hire.
4.) Candidates who meet the minimum requirements and who have not taken the Repairer Written Qualifying Exam within six months of the closing date of this posting are eligible to apply for consideration.
